Election Reset: What Homeowners Need to Know Now

The Board and management have postponed the Annual Meeting and reset the election. Prior ballots and proxies will not be used for final tabulation.

Simple version
  • The election is being re-run.
  • Wait for the new official ballot.
  • Old ballots and proxies will not count.
  • Vote again under the new instructions.
What happened

The Board reset the election after criticizing independent homeowner communications.

The official notice states that the Board, in coordination with Essex Association Management, reviewed the election process and claimed that communications, voting materials, and instructions were circulated outside the Association's authorized procedures.

The notice specifically identified independent websites, including lakewoodhillslewisville.com and samlo.net, as not being official Association platforms.

Bottom line: regardless of the reason given, the practical result is that the prior election process has been canceled and homeowners will have to vote again.
What to do now

Keep it simple.

1

Do not use old materials

Previously submitted ballots and proxies will not be used for the final count.

2

Wait for the new ballot

Management says a new meeting date and updated voting procedures will be sent later.

3

Vote again

Use the new official ballot and follow the new official submission instructions.

Voting basics

How the reset election works

  • You can vote for up to 2 candidates.
  • You are not required to use both votes.
  • Voting for 1 candidate means your vote is placed with that candidate only.

No ballot tool on this page

Because the ballot is changing, this website is not providing a voting tool, ballot download, or submission instructions. Use the new official materials when they are released.

Why vote strategy matters

In a top 2 election, your second vote can affect the final outcome.

This election appears to be a top 2 vote-getters win format. That means the two candidates with the highest vote totals will take the open seats.

What that means in practice

  • You may help elect one candidate you support.
  • Your second vote may also help elect someone whose priorities conflict with yours.
  • In a close election, that second vote can affect whether your preferred candidate wins or loses.

Think about the board you are creating

Using two votes for candidates with opposing priorities can produce a conflicting board. Homeowners should consider whether using both available votes actually supports the direction they want for the HOA.

Reminder: You may vote for up to two candidates, but you are not required to use both votes. Each homeowner should decide how to use their vote based on their own priorities.
Personal endorsement

I endorse Waqar Nadeem.

This is my personal homeowner opinion. I support Waqar Nadeem because I believe he represents the better direction for homeowners who want cost control, fewer unnecessary restrictions, and a more practical HOA.

The other candidates do not align with my priorities for this community, especially on HOA assessments, enforcement practices, and proposed rental restrictions.

The choice is about direction

This election is not just about names on a ballot. It is about whether the HOA moves toward cost discipline and homeowner-focused governance, or stays with the same enforcement-heavy approach.

Issues homeowners should consider

  • HOA assessments and cost control
  • Trash can enforcement and similar restrictions
  • Proposed rental restrictions
  • Whether the current HOA direction should continue
Narrative check

Independent homeowner speech is not the same thing as an official voting process.

The Board notice says official meeting notices, election materials, and voting instructions come through the Association and management company. That is their official process.

This site is different. It is an independent homeowner website expressing homeowner views, explaining what happened, and encouraging residents to pay attention before voting again.
